This morning, something on the side of my house caught my eye. It was a moth. And not just any old moth, but one of the most cleverly camouflaged moths I've ever seen in my life. Here, have a picture.

Photobucket

Is that not gorgeous? And look at all the disguises it has. Not only is it green and sort of leaf shaped, but it looks to have a little twig on the top of its leaves...I mean wings, and its antlers are also shaped like wispy little leaves. That is one of the coolest things I've seen. Nature just fascinates me sometimes.

Look at how big it is. It's nearly the size of my hand. How awesome is that? It's gigantic!

Photobucket

(My commentary sounds like Randall discussing the nasty, bad ass honey badger. Honey badger don't care, it does what it wants. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg
NOT safe for work. Seriously.)

Anyway....

Speaking of fascinating nature, check out my rose. It's yellow!

Photobucket

It's pink! And yellow.

I have toes!

That's all on the same rose bush. It's just crazy how different the colors are. Some are solid yellow, some are solid pink, some are pink and yellow and some almost look orange. I love it! Love. It.

And this is the red, red rose growing wild in my backyard. There's also a ton of honeysuckle and mock orange growing back there, too. In the evening when it's really hot and humid, the air is thick with the perfume of hundreds of flowers. This is just blissful. Seriously, blissful.

Ahhhhhhh. I can't wait to have everyone over in a month for my housewarming shindig to show off all this beauty and love. ♥

Moths and flowers and critters on the porch. It just doesn't get much better than that.

You betcha! I wish my raccoon would come back. He was adorable and didn't seem at all intimidated by my presence.

Yeah, it amazes me that those came from the same bush. It's so pretty, and the colors are just so varied.

Hi! I need to check and see if I added you. I saw that you'd added me, but it wasn't at a time that I could do anything about it (I've been a bit addled for the past few weeks), so if I didn't, I will do so now!

And I didn't even realize I was getting my feet in almost every picture of the rose. Oops!

;o) ... I haven't been as active a poster in recent times but tend to comment a lot. GLad to have you as a LJF.

I've tended to be just the opposite lately, making posts, but then leaving my own commenters hanging and not reading/commenting on others as much as I'd like. But things are settling down some now (you can read back, if you want, to see what's been going on), and I hope to remedy that. Welcome aboard!

Whoa, that's a weird moth. How cool is that? And the roses are lovely!

I'm so glad you have all these things to love about your new place :)

I looked it up and google tells me it is a luna moth. Who knew.

There are many things I'm finding to love. The location alone has been worth the price of admission.

omg that moth! That is so cool, thank you for sharing a picture of it! I live in a really temperate climate so all of our moths are small and boring, haha.

I've got a gazillion little moths around my outside light now, but the big one is gone. Ah well.

And I looked it up too, this afternoon, to find that it is indeed a luna moth. Which makes me wonder..what was it doing out during the daytime?! Luna should be out at night, wouldn't you think??

What's That Bug? tells me that this is a Luna Moth!

How cool!

Cool luna moth. I see them around here, but not too often.

We do get some huge types, one of which is a sphinx moth. It comes at night to feed off my petunias. They often get mistaken for hummers.

I don't think I'd ever seen one like this! I've seen lots of huge moths that are brown or other "neutral" colors, but this is certainly the most colorful I've seen. And so interesting!

Oooh, you just reminded me, I actually need to get a hummingbird feeder. Thank you!

I love luna moths!

You should take up flower pressing! I'm currently obsessed with it. I bought four pansy plants that I'm growing in my apartment just to press! I made this with some others that I've pressed. It is almost no one's cup of tea (the artwork, I mean) but I like it.

Hmmm...yeah I don't know that I would necessarily get into the whole anatomical thing, but the artwork itself is actually really cool. I hadn't thought of pressing them, but yeah, I've certainly got enough flowers now. I've just been cutting bouquets galore for the house. I currently have flowers in wine bottles and vases all over the place!

That moth is amazing and beautiful, but I have to admit, if I saw it, I would scream and run away.

Oh my goodness! Wuss! ;-)

Bugs don't bother me at all, and I coexist totally peacefully with them, which is good, because there are quite a few around this house. I'm not wild about the ants in my kitchen though, and will probably try to get rid of them. Everything else though, I can live with.

They're doing well! I don't have their big condo yet, but they're liking the rest of the house. Misty took longer to adjust than Oreo this time, which is backwards from how it normally is. But they're both doing great now, and really seem to like it here. They've certainly got plenty to look at!

I despise moths, but the Luna moth..I have yet to see a live one (which they don't live for long, I don't think) :P I found one last year on the ground dead:( I thought it was a very pretty leaf at first than got to looking closer and saw it was the moth ive been wanting to see alive lol..I made my coworkers go out and look at it lol. well didn't make them..they were curious too. Isn't it the prettiest moth? Love them! Loving the flowers..got to love this time of year! (even though my head is hating it lol..i love spring/summer, but it hates me!)

I don't like it when I have a ton of moths flitting around my outside light if I'm trying to sit outdoors, but I do think the ones like this are beautiful.

The flowers are amazing. I am awed by them every day.

I was obsessed with Luna moths as a child. I saw a picture once and thought it was the prettiest thing ever. When I saw one in real life it was the coolest thing ever when I was 10. :)

I love your house and all the posts about it. I can't wait to see it. I'm so proud of you for getting this house!! :)

I've seen a lot of moths, and some very large, but this was the first time I'd ever seen one like this. I was totally fascinated with it as an adult. If I'd found it as a kid, I don't think I could've contained my excitement! :-)

And thank you...I can't wait for you to see it, too!
