D'oh!

Why...WHY is it so hard for people to spell "independent" correctly? I received an e-mail today from a potential employer. They want someone who can work "independantly."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh. Good. Lord. I'm betting you were all over this guy, huh?

I'm very sorry to hear that his friend "pasted" away, but...holy moly!

What is a "rach" manager? One who manages Rachmaninoff? :-P Yes, I'm a geek.

[identity profile] adventuregirly.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, that was so hot I couldn't stand it. ;-)

I guess I am a geek, too, because I know of this Rachmaninoff of which you speak.

[identity profile] darcyzero.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Close that match NOW! haha

[identity profile] adventuregirly.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Done!!

I know the feeling!

a freind of mine that has pasted a way a long time ago

"Don't you mean 'passed away'?"
"No. He drowned in a tragic wallpapering accident"

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I picture him choking on glue or something. But I like yours better.

HE HE!!

ROTFL!

[identity profile] theldara.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I can't spell and I actually get that one right =P

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm very glad to hear that. :-) And I can be forgiving when it's more casual or whatever, but to send to a potential employee? (A potential employee who is a total Grammar Nazi, I might add...)

[identity profile] tnrkitect.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they don't have to spell right to pay gud! ;-P

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that is true. My current boss couldn't spell his way out of a paper bag, and he makes more money in one year than I'll probably make the rest of my life.

I actually corrected some of his spelling on a website he made. I felt like an ass for doing it, but some of them were just SO BAD, and it looked really unprofessional.

[identity profile] tnrkitect.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I've met people like that.

I just try to make sure they know how to do math. And sign a check. (That's important too!)

DEFINITELY.

(See that word? It doesn't have an "a" in it.)

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yet another pet peeve of mine. "Seperate" is another.

In my head, I say a lot of words oddly so that I'm spelling them right. Can't think of any right now cuz I'm tired....g'night!

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Remembering if it was millenium or millineum was very difficult for me, for some reason, and was quite a stumbling block during 1999-2000, as you might imagine! I also have some trouble with the "i before e, except after c" rule, because it often just LOOKS wrong, even when it's right.

I have a problem with niece.

[identity profile] angelsmom.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My old high school english teacher told us, "There's A RAT in separate!" Personally I couldn't stand the man, but I have to admit I think that every single time I see that word.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The dad of one of my former students told me that rule ("a rat" in separate), during a conference one time. I'd never heard it, but I thought it was quite helpful! And I also think of it every time I see that word. Especially when it's been misspelled. :-P

[identity profile] messhedontwant.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It took me forever to get that one right ;) de-finite-ly
helloalana: (you got it)

[personal profile] helloalana 2007-11-13 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
There's a kid who sits next to me in class who keeps turning in papers with the word "defiantly" where "definitely" is supposed to be. HE SAYS that it's the auto-correct, but I once played with the auto-correct (which, as we all know, CAN BE TURNED OFF) and found that for that to happen, you have to spell it as "definatly." So...yeah. Ugh.

I'm glad you self-corrected. Most people just get defensive.

[identity profile] spiritofjoy.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
:: cringe ::

Ouch.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[identity profile] annietopia.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot spell the word "definitely" without using spellcheck. I have no clue why, but I have always had trouble with that damn word.

**I did spellcheck before posting this, and I had it wrong yet again!

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Haha!! Hey, at least you try! I give you major kudos for that. (And I just spelled it "kudoes" the first time. :-P)

[identity profile] darcyzero.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha....

I am known at work for being the webster dictionary. I might not know how to spell everything, but for the most part I can. ha

This is mean, and I love her to death, but have you ever read any of Lauranetta's blogs? They make me cringe. She writes/types the way she talks. I had an english class with her in college and helping her proofread her papers drove me INSANE. I never ever even proofread my papers in college and always made a B or better. I think she deep down hated me for that. ha

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhhh, I have not, and now I can't decide if I'm intrigued enough to check them out, or if I should just stay away!

I think I need to go see.

And yes, I was the proofreading queen in my dorm. I should've charged for my services.

[identity profile] nessachan.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Their" so "independant", they don't even has to abide by your facist ways of spelling and "grammer!" They want someone as "independantly" minded as they are for "they're" hip new way of living like "peeps" who just dont even hardly care!!!!!

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Much like myfriend fred!!

[identity profile] headbanger118.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes!! But hey, if they pay well, I could get past that.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Meh...it's still in real estate/marketing, although it would be an assistant's position, and therefore salary plus commission. I just really wanna get out of this field, though.

[identity profile] angelsmom.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My biggest, BIGGEST incorrect spelling snafu has GOT to be in the canine world. I own 2 dogs...one is a purebred German Shepherd, the other is a German Shepherd mix. I have YET to meet a German Shepard or Sheppard. EGADS! And some of these people are in Shep COMMUNITIES!! Don't you think they'd know better?!

Sigh...and would you believe Melody's papers actually say German Sheppard? Oh please, people.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
YES!!! I can't count the rescue sites that I've visited who rehome German Shepards!! Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!

And yes, sadly, I can believe that. :-/

[identity profile] angelsmom.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! So it's not just me! :-)
ext_35267: (Introspection)

[identity profile] wlotus.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually misspell that word. The spelling is not intuitive to me.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
OK, but you have enough wonderful redeeming qualities, that I will not hold that against you. ;-)

Seriously though, if you were an employer, seeing a competent employee, would you not spellcheck before sending them an e-mail? I guess that was my pet peeve, as much as the misspelling itself, y'know?

[identity profile] pfy.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Why...WHY is it so hard for people to spell "independent" correctly?

Blame the French. Really.

I don't know how people keep misspelling words even though they must see them spelled correctly all the time, though. Well, unless they never read anything at all, even road signs and food labels. Maybe they spend their lives wondering why all those people keep yelling out of their car windows, and why marmalade-and-gravy sandwiches taste so funny.

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Aha.

Really though, shouldn't we just blame the French for everything? And their salad dressing is really, really nasty.

Marmalade and gravy sandwiches? And I thought you were weird for your potato, butter and ketchup sandwich. ;-)

[identity profile] mpurple.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i think they misspoke. they meant "seperately." ;)

[identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Definately. :-P

[identity profile] adventuregirly.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
As I was going to the lunchroom, I saw a guy dressed in ratty knit shorts & a plain men's white t-shirt (untucked, of course) come in & tell the receptionist he was there to follow-up on the application he filled out last week.
