I think I am losing my mind.

As some of you may know, I am adamantly opposed to coffee of any kind. I never drink it, I don't own a coffee maker and the mere thought of it usually makes me nauseous.

There is a reason for my hatred of coffee and it goes back to my childhood. I'll give you the brief version. You know those International Coffees in the little rectangular tins? Well, back in the day, when I was about 10 or so, this was a new product. I saw an ad for the Suisse Mocha on TV one day and thought "ooh, that looks yummy!" So the next time my mom and I were at the grocery store, I asked her to buy me some. See, I thought it was going to taste like hot chocolate. I had no idea it involved coffee. My mother told me that she didn't think I'd like it. But I begged and pleaded and assured her that I would too like it! So, she finally relented and bought it for me. That night, she fixed me a hot cup of it, I took one sip and literally gagged. It was DISGUSTING. Bitter, nasty coffee. I couldn't even taste the chocolate in it. I told my mom how gross I thought it was, and she just shook her head. "You told me you'd drink it." I begged and pleaded again, this time for her to just take the blasted stuff away. But she told me that I had to drink every drop of it. I'd promised I would.

I will never forget, sitting at the dinner table, sipping on that disgusting coffee beverage, crying and pleading with my mom just to pleeeeeeeaaaase let me go to my room. But she held her ground (I've gotta give it to her. She usually caved.) I drank every bit of it. And by the time I got to the bottom of the cup, it was cold and even nastier than it had been when it was hot. I promptly ran to the bathroom and regurgitated.

Fortunately, she did not make me drink the entire container, just that one cup. But that was enough. (I seriously don't remember asking for ANYthing else at the grocery store for a really, really long time.) Since that time, I have never been able to drink coffee. I've tried, because coffee is apparently one of the most socially accepted beverages to share in a public capacity. But it still positively makes me ill. Many people find the smell of coffee brewing to be a pleasant aroma. I find it disgusting. And going down the ground coffee aisle in the supermarket makes me gag.

So, how...why did I have the thought just now that I'd really like some coffee?

I know if I got any, it would just be a repeat of The Great International Coffee Fiasco. But at least I wouldn't make myself drink it all if I didn't like it.
