Bernie Mac dead at the age of 50, from pneumonia? I wasn't really a fan of his or anything, but fifty? And pneumonia? That's just really strange and horrible.
I'm almost positive the other day or so the publicist was saying "Oh, he's fine, nothing to worry about." It's strange how that always happens with celebrities, their publicists will make statements that are the exact opposite of what's really going on with them, i.e. illness, pregnancy, an impending wedding, etc. If the intent is to dissuade the media, it never works, and the truth always comes out shortly thereafter. I wonder why they bother saying anything at all.
Ah, well, it's sad. 50 is far too young to pass away these days.
It is indeed. And you are exactly right about the denials of publicists. I guess that's their job though. I love it when they say "no, _____________ is absolutely, unequivocally not pregnant", as she displays a watermelon size bulge under her dress.
I know, it's so much easier to make fun of things when they're happening to somebody else (as opposed to, say, somebody FIREBOMBING YOUR @#$% STREET), but I'll just say the first two words that came into my mind:
I just saw your update. That's crazy! I hope you have a garage?
When I lived at my old house on the Tree Streets, we all had to park curbside. One night, some idiot 19-year-old with his daddy's truck decided it would be cool to go down the street whacking at car mirrors with a golf club. What he didn't count on though, was the stoner kids who lived across the street from me, who sat out on their porch at all hours of the night and morning. One of them actually had the energy to chase the guy down and get his tag number. They came over to my house at 2 in the morning to tell me that my car mirror had been knocked off by this moron. But since I had the tag, I was able to call the cops and trace who the truck belonged to, and he was charged with vandalism (or something.) My insurance paid for it to be fixed and it was an inconvenience, but still nothing like what's going down on your street.
I did make the stoner kids a lasagna for their efforts, which I'm sure was polished off in ten seconds flat.
I just read that! Wow...it's hard to believe that people still die from pneumonia in a First World country. I liked him well enough, and his TV show was cute.
Do you remember when I had pneumonia in 1997 and missed two weeks of work? I FELT like I was going to die then. But apparently death by pneumonia is more common than you might think. Scary stuff.
That is so scary. I had it when I was 29, but after a couple of rounds of antibiotics and bed rest, I was on the mend. Still, it took weeks for me to be able to walk up the flight of stairs to my classroom without having to stop and pant. It can really get you down.
Last night Mork and I were just talking about how scary the new strains of bacteria, germs and virii are. The ones you pick up while you're in the hospital trying to recover from other things.
I absolutely LOVED the Oceans movies. And he was great in them.
Our hospital in Johnson City is plagued by staph. People will check in with one thing (sometimes, not even a "sickness) and get sick while they're IN the hospital.
I got some sort of strep/staph infection in the hospital that gave me a gross yellowish-reddish rash all around my incision that itched something fierce. I noticed that the staff there used the antibacterial gel a lot but didn't actually wash their hands very frequently. I sometimes wonder how effective that stuff really is. Anyway, they first gave me one antibiotic that was hell and made me super sick, but after a round of ten days with something else, it was gone. It still took several days after that for the itching to fully subside. Not cool. And that was just a rash!
*nods* There are several new varieties of bacteria that are difficult to kill that can cause pneumonia--with improper use antibiotics, we're creating whole new generations of virtually unkillable superbugs.
I remember being shocked by the death of Jim Henson. This didn't surprise me so much once I learned about his chronic condition. My sons and I used to have some good laughs when his sitcom TV show first started.
pneumonia is scary. My mom almost died from it around 2003. She was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks and missed work for about a month, maybe longer.
She's doing ok, but now they think she's also got a problem with her shoulder which is causing some problems. If they have to do surgery on her shoulder, I'll just be pissed. This has been going on over a year now.
That was a shocker, and sadden me and not even a fan of his ... To me that is so young but eh, just a reminder that we aren't promised a tomorrow and to live (like Tim Mcgraw's song..oh its a country one.. I know you love it:-p) like we were dying

Date: 2008-08-09 02:59 pm (UTC)I'm no doctor, but I didn't think it was possible to actually die due to insomnia. Pneumonia sounds much more believable.
