OK, actually that is a lie. I did NOT feel the earth (or anything else) move, but apparently I'm the only one who didn't.

I've had people on my friends list in Michigan, Kentucky and west Tennessee say that they either felt it, or knew it happened. I'm assuming with that geographical spread that Indiana and Illinois were also involved? Maybe Missouri jumped in on the party, too? Exactly how widespread was this thing?! Wow.

The kitties did get me up early this morning to eat, but that's nothing entirely unusual. Although the phone on my nightstand was knocked off, I assumed it was due to a different sort of earthquake (that would be Sabrina), and I'm pretty sure it was, but maybe we got it, too, and I just didn't know.

So, how many of you actually felt this thing?

(And I can hear the rumblings of my California friends laughing right now. Hush. :-P Earthquakes just don't normally happen 'round these parts, people!)

There was something on the news about it this morning hitting illinois, indiana, & missouri but that's really all I heard about it.

It's predicted that one of these days Memphis will get one that's disastrous.

From: [identity profile] bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com
Yep, I've heard that as well. Apparently there's some sort of major fault there. I'm glad to have moved further away from Memphis, although if they get it, I'm sure the rest of the state won't be far behind. Knoxville would occasionally get earthquakes, but I never felt any of them either.

The quake was just before 4:37 a.m. Central time and was centered 6 miles from West Salem, Ill., 66 miles from Evansville, Ind.

Ah, well my phone was knocked off the table at 6 am, but like I said, I suspect it was Hurricane Sabrina, rather than an earthquake. Apparently she was very hungry and she knows how to get my attention.

Did they get any of the tremors in Knoxville?

Heard it and felt it. Was pretty cool, like a semi hitting the house without breaking anything...

Wow, that DOES sound cool! ;-)

Are you in KY or IN? One of my KY friends (in Louisville) got a pretty good jolt.

I am in Louisville, yes. it was really kinda neat. I have been in them before when I was out west. Having one here is just so unexpected...

Detroit area here. The tremors didn't seem to travel this far, although at that hour, I'd have been hard-pressed to feel it even if I was at the epicenter. We're in the middle of a $250 million trial in Federal court that's taken two years to prepare for. Eighteen hour (or more) days are common lately, so sleep is at a premium right now. Everyone in this office looks like a zombie, myself included.

I have felt tremors twice before in this area though - however, needless to say, they are quite infrequent.

Mr. Jeff! Just the man I've been wanting to talk to. (No, nothing salacious, sorry.)

Have you ever used Metrogel for your rosacea? I just started it this week (Monday), and it's drying my skin out like nobody's business. I'm using extra moisturizer, but it's still getting pretty serious. I want to say that maybe I've noticed a decrease in the redness, but I'm not sure if it's just being covered up with dry skin. Just curious what you've used/tried.

As for the earthquake, apparently it was pretty widespread, but centered near Evansville, IN. That's not *too* far from here, as earthquakes go, I suppose. I was also dead to the world, but fortunately not for the same reason as you. Life is decidedly more laid-back since I've moved away from Knoxville and I'm enjoying that a lot.

How much longer do you expect the trial to go on? Hope it wraps up soon, so you can get some rest!

I actually use a custom blend of Metrolotion (the lotion form of Metrogel - I find the lotion easier to apply than the gel) and something else that escapes me at the moment. I'll look tonight when I get home and advise accordingly.

I am also on a regimen of 40 mg of Oracea daily, that I supplant with 200 mg of Doxycycline daily when the outbreaks become too severe. Actually, I'm in a nasty flare right now (given the trial and such, no surprise there), and I'm hitting my dermatologist on Monday morning. At least the eye has cleared up to the point where it's almost normal again.

The trial will likely last another month. Regardless of which side prevails, I can practically guarantee an appeal from the losing faction - at which point, we start the process all over again.

Ugh..that does sound rough. (The trial, I mean.)

I'm wondering if the lotion might not be as drying as the gel? I'd never actually tried anything prescription for it, and didn't even know for sure that I had rosacea until a month or so ago. So this is all new to me. I'm glad to hear that your eye is getting better. I had no idea that it could be so serious. Mine has always just been cosmetically aggravating..redness and splotches that makeup would not cover up. Hopefully by getting it early, before it gets to the point that it can be really medically serious, I'll nip it in the bud, but this dryness is killing me.

But yes, I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

The lotion I'm using is a blend of Desowen and Metrolotion. The Desowen is a cortisone-based steroid.

Hah...I had no idea what half the songs I heard as a kid were about. It's kinda like "Afternoon Delight." I thought it was about fireworks, or perhaps a nap. I was very glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought that. In an interview about their impromptu version of that song in "Anchorman", Paul Rudd said he also thought it was about fireworks and taking a nap. :-P

True story: I grew up 12 miles from New Madrid, aka fault line central. Now I live in San Francisco... which is the biggest fault line on the West Coast. I seriously have some subconscious desire to die in an earthquake I suppose right?

Hah! Yes, I guess you do.

I actually mentioned you yesterday, when I was corrected for saying "MissourI." I was promptly told that it's actually Missourah. I think you were the first person (who wasn't a redneck) that I'd ever heard say it that way.

It here in St. Louis but I never felt it up in the norhern burbs of town. It happened along what they refer to as the Wabash fault so that might be why it wasn't felt all over St. Louis. Had it been along the New Madrid, it would have been another story.

Max...

Apparently I was dead to the world when it happened. I had no idea until I logged on to LJ and a friend I have from IL made a post along the lines of "WTF EARTHQUAKE." Surely it was felt here, I'm in NW TN o.O.

Although there have apparently been about three minor shakes since I moved up here, and I have yet to feel one, lol.

Crap...I wish I could remember the name of the town that they profiled. It was interesting.

The segment mainly focused on how the temperature usually averaged 10 degrees, but had risen by a balmy 22 degrees in the last few years. It also spotlighted the absence of polar bears, which used to be common there. I'll have to google and see if I can find it..
