Weeeeelllllll, I have a little secret.

Meet the newest resident of Casa de Kimmy.

(Please pardon the big black cord in the floor. I was vacuuming when he decided to plunk down and watch TV.) He's a news junkie like his mommy. And apparently a Democrat.

He helps me when I internet.

I've had the little guy for a while now, but I wasn't ready to announce it to the world. I was so in need of a good snugging kitty after Sabrina died, so I decided to check out the shelter "just to see what was there." I should've known, that's like going to the grocery store when you're absolutely famished. I honestly had no intention of taking one home with me, but this little guy just totally stole my heart.
He is like a perfect combination of the two I lost, Dazzle and Sabrina. He LOOKS so much like Dazzle, it's crazy. But he shares some similar personality traits, such as actually wanting to be held on his back with his belly up in the air. He's playful (and a little rough) like Dazzle was. But he is every bit as sweet, and wanting of affection like Sabrina. He also grooms my face with his little tongue, just like she did. I looked at probably ten cats at the shelter, and while they were all sweet and very deserving of a good home, I just knew this one was the right one for me. I'd said that I'd let my new kitty pick me, and he totally did. I think he's a good age (about four months) to integrate into the family.
He's got a bit of a respiratory infection, but he is being treated (and I'm watching the others like a hawk..one thing I don't need on my hands is three more sick babies), although he tested negative for all the biggies (FIV, distemper, etc.) So far, even though the others aren't exactly welcoming him with open paws, they seem tolerant. I introduced them slowly, and it went OK. Misty has stopped hissing at him, and Oreo seems suspiciously curious. General just wants to continuously sniff his butt.
Now, my dilemma. He doesn't really have a name! I was considering DJ (Dazzle Jr.) or Deja, because they do look so much alike. But I dunno about that one. He follows me and General around like it's his job, so I was calling him Shadow (and that's how he's registered at the vet.) But I don't love it, and I don't know that it necessarily suits him. I've just been calling him "Little Pooh", but that's not a real name, and at the rate he's growing, he won't be "Little" for long. The vet was calling him Munchkin, which is cute, and I thought as he grew older, I could shorten it to Munch. That would be a nice nod to an artist I like a lot AND my favorite Law and Order character. But again, it just doesn't grab me. I was thinking of Ash, because of his coloring. Or probably "Ashe", because of my love of Asheville. That's a definite maybe. I just don't know though!
Any ideas? I have never been at a loss to name a pet! Normally I can think of names like *that*, but this one is stumping me! So, what do ya think, LJ?

Date: 2008-09-02 06:16 pm (UTC)I tried not to go for the cutest one (there were some long-haired grey kitties that looked like they could've done cat food commercials or something), but rather the one whose personality fit the best. I wanted a mellow, affectionate cat who enjoyed being held a lot, and that's exactly what I got. The fact that he's adorable is just a nice bonus. :-)

Date: 2008-09-02 06:25 pm (UTC)The whole week, they all had me crying. Michelle Obama's speech was amazing. Al Gore, Biden, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, they were all just amazing. I don't see how the republicans can top any of that shit this week.
I just love seeing all of the republicans that spoke for Obama!! It was great.
Obama's speech on Thursday night was just so good. I felt he really proved that he's a normal guy working for the normal people out there.
I could go on and on and on!!

Date: 2008-09-02 06:25 pm (UTC)They do look a lot alike! So, Pinces did not have a nice demeanor? This one may not after he's grown up, but right now, I think he'd be happy if I never let his feet touch the ground. To say that he enjoys being held is an understatement, and that was just what I wanted...a good holding kitty. :-)

Date: 2008-09-02 08:06 pm (UTC)Oh, she's just gotten crabby as she's gotten older, that's all. She's 18...she'll be 19 next May. And her facial expressions and her meow have gotten very, um, Maxine-like. :-)She's such an old curmudgeon, but she's still very cuddly and loves to lay in your lap. Right now she's sitting patiently on the arm of the couch right next to me, and if I lay a hand on her I know she'll yowl at me. But then she'll turn around and expect some loving. That's my Pinces...she's like that old person in the nursing home that everyone avoids because you're certain they're just a bitchy old crabass, but once you get to know them you realize how wrong you were. I love her lots!

HAHA. Max did that to Jazz. He was all "you had boy parts, yes? Not a girl? Really!? Are you sure?".
Names tend to pick themselves. We tried and tried to rename Jazz, but it didn't stick! So, he's Jazz, Jazzelbut, or that damn kitten. Yanno, depending on the moment. Max did the same... he's Maxwell Odafin, after Maxwell Edison and Odafin "Fin" Tutuola from L&O.
Elliot is another good L&O name. We considered that for Max, but Max stuck too well.
I can't ever think of a cat's name without meeting the cat, so good luck! I have tried to stick with personality names (my Southern Belle) or book names (Bane, who was named after a child named Bane in the DeathGate Cycle of novels).
Now to go see if this is public so I can send Kaity over!

I've had tea. I'm hyper. Don't mind me. :)

Date: 2008-09-02 10:48 pm (UTC)congratulations. :)
i actually do like munch.
ok, sabrina's name always made me think of audrey hepburn. i do not know if you named her after that movie character or not, but two of the male characters in that movie are linus (bogart's part) and oliver - both cute names for a little kitty dude, i think. but if you aren't an audrey hepburn/old movie buff, it doesn't make much sense. :P
again, branching out, dazzle makes me thing of siouxsie & the banshees so maybe severin, budgie, sid or smith? eh? that's all i got. :P

Date: 2009-03-14 02:59 am (UTC)I'm not really a big Audrey Hepburn fan, and I honestly don't know where the name Sabrina came from! My ex and I got her at my mammaw's farm when we went to get a Christmas tree. We didn't get a tree, but we did come home with a cat. We were driving home in the truck and I was holding her. I just said "she looks like a Sabrina" and he concurred. And she had her name.
Dazzle was totally named after the Siouxsie song! Well, that and I'd had a dream that I had a little tabby kitten and I named him Dazzle, because in my dream, he sparkled. It was only a day or two after that, that I got Dazzle for real, so he was already pre-named!
I couldn't resist!

Date: 2008-09-04 05:02 am (UTC)My family, (mother actually) has an affinity for the brown tabby cats. She had a great cat that she named Ziggy that lived for a long time and was her traveling companion. Ziggy and Mom went globetrotting and enjoyed places like Aruba and Venezuela and later to the beach every weekend until the end of her days. A couple of years went by she went to a shelter and found another brown tabby that she fell in love with and she was quickly adopted and given the name Izzy. Ziggy/Izzy it's all a play on letters.
Maybe you can get creative with the name Dazzle and come up with a unique cat name while honoring the previous kitty yet keeping identity intact.
Dazzle: Dizz, razzle, rizzo, (snoop-dogg influence) D-hizzle, fo-shizzle, ma-nizzle, etc...
My vote is for Razzle.
Razzle was also the movie name for flea in the Suburbia movie.

Date: 2008-09-05 04:18 am (UTC)Are you sure you and your almost-elderly kitties can handle a baby after so long not being around one? Lol.
I will say I am a bit envious that if you really decide you want an animal, you can just go to the shelter and be chosen. I have to wheedle and whine and try to do the pouty-cute thing to get Ben's approval :(.
Though I'm working on him for a puppy right now. Go read my last post to see the one I've fallen in love with >>.
