Signs, signs, everywhere the signs..

A new restaurant opened up in a neighboring town. They want you to...

And this one does not even need a caption. It speaks for itself.

I just wonder, which member of the party are they roasting? :-) Speaking of pigs, who is going to see this new movie about Dubya? I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm sure it will be a total hatchet job, which you'd think would be enjoyable to watch. But on the other hand, I feel it's almost unfair. I mean, the guy is such an easy target, to skewer him is like shooting fish in a barrel. So, I'm not sure. I may wait until it comes out on DVD.
Until then, come hungery to the Republican party pig roast!

Date: 2008-08-02 09:35 am (UTC)I think the best way to take a childish silly dig is to turn it on its ear.
Let's see...a sewage treatment plant... it's something takes literal crap and purifies it and turns it into something not just useful but lifegiving.
I'd take it. Heck, if I were him I'd send a nice thank you note just to burn up the people who thought they were really showing him with silly stunt politics.

Date: 2008-08-02 02:31 am (UTC)I won't see the movie, because I've spent the last eight years hearing about how awful, stupid, and evil Bush is. Pretty much I've seen the movie, I'm thinking.

Date: 2008-08-02 09:49 am (UTC)Iraq has stabilized in dramatic fashion though there is a lot of work that can be undone. If in the next few years and continuing decades down the road if Iraq does indeed come out as a functioning full fledged democracy in the middle east with views friendly to the West, Bush is going to be hailed up there in at least Harry S. Truman category.
If we allow Iraq to collapse with Iran muscling in and taking over with killing fields reminiscent of post Vietnam that would be sure to follow, history will certainly be a lot less kind.
It's an interesting quandry I think for those who despise Pres. Bush.
Do you want Iraq to fall apart which will vindicate hated of Bush or do you hope the country continues to pull it together despite knowing Bush is going to be hailed as the architect of a newly fledged democracy in a region of the world where naysayers said it couldn't possibly be done?
Me...I'm going to root for the country where men and women proudly held up ink stained fingers despite serious and credible threats on their life in order to VOTE.
(and yes, I'm making this extremely simplistic. I know things are much more complicated than that. And no, I'm really not GWB's #1 supporter. I'm just an armchair historian with a penchant for Presidential biographies. :))

As for Oliver Stones movie...phbttt. It's a dumb idea, but Hollywood isn't really known for their brains either. I think half the time they make movies strictly for the awards shows and to impress their equally vapid friends.

Also, it says in that article that his remains were disinterred from the Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville (which I always wanted to go to, as it's very historical), and moved to Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City. I actually worked at Monte Vista for a while. Yes, I worked in a cemetery, and I drove around the massive grounds in a golf cart to show people to their loved ones' gravesites. :-)
I don't think I even noticed that was his sign. This picture was taken at Sycamore Shoals, which is quite a significant historic site in itself. Thanks for (accidentally) prompting me to do all this research, Meri!

Date: 2008-08-02 06:32 pm (UTC)When I saw the Republican Party pig-roast sign in front of his hysterical marker, I nearly spit water on my screen. It just struck my funny bone hard. His brother is probably laughing too :)

Date: 2008-08-02 06:38 pm (UTC)"Southern Democrat" is still a dirty word. ;-) You should see some of the looks I get when I confess I'm not a Republican. Most of my family members think I was hatched from a spaceship.
I actually live about 20 minutes from the site where all this took place. You know, a lot of history went down here, and I feel kind of inspired to research more of it. Some of my family members were the first known settlers in the area, and I've been to their farm, but now I'm intrigued to find out more about what happened here back in the day.
Hmmmmmmmmm....
